What It Does

Every pad is a chord built straight out of the scale you set. Hold one, hold a handful, mash a fistful of them. It stays in key because the notes come from the key, so you don't need to know any theory to sound like you do. When you DO want to step outside (a borrowed "Mood" chord, a sharp-11), there are a couple of spice buttons that do it on purpose, not by accident.

In-Key Chord Grid

Every pad plays a diatonic chord in your root and scale. Four rows give you four octaves of the same chords. Mash any combination and it holds together.

Voice Leading

Chords move a note at a time and hold common tones instead of jumping to a fresh block on every press, the thing that makes an Orchid sound musical. It's a toggle, so you can A/B it live against straight root-position stacks.

Stackable Colors

Step buttons add the character on top: sixths and sevenths, ninths, elevenths, thirteenths, sus and quartal voicings. Combine them however you want, and they stay in the key you set.

Independent Bass

Drop a bass root under the chord and send it out on its own MIDI channel. It holds while the upper voices move, so your low end can go to a different synth than the chords.

Performance Controls

Strum, arpeggiate in time over Ableton Link, latch a chord so it rings while your hands are free, and loosen the timing and velocity with a Feel knob. A panic button kills every note on all 16 channels.
